Q: What makes your products different from other ‘natural products’?
A: With careful research, development and testing we have perfected all natural formulas that provide horses, livestock and barns with safe and healthy alternative fly and insect condition relief. Q: My mare got bit up on the front of her chest, all bumpy. Now a few days later her chest is flaking with chunks of gooey skin and hair. What’s going on?
A: It sounds like she has had an allergic reaction to the bites. Often the bug bitten area will turn into a Sweet Itch condition. Use the Groomer to scrub the area well. By the end of a week, brush the area in which you will notice the condition relieved and new skin and hair growth. Follow up with Bare Skin Barrier to protect from further bug bites. Q: My horse is rubbing her tail out and has bumps all along her neck from bites. What can I do?
A: I have found cleaning the waxy buildup, otherwise known as smegma, from the horses udder area stops the tail rubbing. This goes for geldings sheath too. You will be amazed at the reduction of tail rubbing once this area is cleaned. Follow up with the Groomer on any bug bitten areas in the udder area then apply the Bare Skin Barrier to provide continued protection from pests. As for the bumps and rubbing mane, use the Groomer to provide immediate itching relief (I use the Groomer on my own bug bites, which immediately takes out the itch). Thank you for your question.
Q: I have noticed bot fly eggs already on my horse’s legs, neck and shoulders, but it is only the first of July. I thought they came out around late August, early Fall but there are yellowish eggs attached to my horse’s hair. What can I do about these pests?
A: You are correct in presuming that bots usually lay their eggs around August, but I have noticed them very early this year too. If you are from the Pacific Northwest, it is due to the mild winter we had. What I do is pick off the eggs either by hand or use a lice comb that can be purchased at the drug store. I mix 2-4 droppers full of Groomer to 1 cup of water, apply some of the mixture to a wet sponge and generously apply around the fetlock and offended areas, reapply the diluted Groomer freshly for each area of application. Often, I will continue the wipe down of my entire horse with the diluted Groomer when the bugs are thick, and follow up with the Fly Spray for continued relief.
Q: My horse has little tiny flies on her belly all the time, no matter how often I wash her or try to keep her clean. What do you recommend?
A: Both my Mares lift their legs for me when I start to apply a diluted mixture of our Groomer directly to their bellies. It has provided such relief for them that they submit to the vigorous rub down. I add 2-4 droppers full of Groomer to 1 cup of water then pour some onto a wet sponge. I rub the belly area vigorously wiping away the dirt and bug fecal matter, then wipe the inside of each back leg as well. I reapply more mixture to my sponge then work the belly button area on up to the chest. They enjoy the rub down and the cooling relief of the peppermint, as well as the antibacterial effect of the lavender on any bug bites and sores. I follow up with the Bare Skin Barrier for continued relief in the morning and evening when the little flies are most active.
Q: Horses don’t need anti-bacterial/anti-virus any more than people do.
A: Natures Balance products do not generate an environment for mutation of viruses and bacteria. The all natural ingredients repel bacteria, fungus and viruses for example Lavender and Tea Tree are natural antibodies against bacteria and fungus. Man has made synthetic antibodies that have created the mutation effect. Our environment has flowers and plants that are natural antibodies to harmful bacteria, fungus and viruses without disturbing the healthful bacteria we all need to live a health life. Q: Why are the chemicals Permectrin, Pyrethrum and others bad? What do they do?
A: Studies have shown that Pyrethrum, Permectrin, Resmethrin, and the Pyrethroid family of chemicals when absorbed by the skin, inhaled, or ingested cause enlarged llivers, interruption of the endocrine (reproduction) system, nervous system, and depression of the immune system. A product can still say all natural but have these chemicals as allowed by the EPA. Q: Pennyroyal is a natural essential oil, why do you think it is harmful?
A: Pennyroyal is certainly an effective pest control essential oil, but I have chosen not to use it in my products because it has the potential to be fatal for humans with the ingestion of only two tablespoons. Therefore, I have chosen to avoid potentially harmful essential oils by replacing them with botanicals that are not harmful if absorbed by the skin or accidentally inhaled. The combinations of the ingredients I have chosen are just as effective as Pennyroyal without the potential harmful effects.
Q: We have been successfully using your products for our horses for about 6 months. I was wondering if the skin products are safe for dogs? We have an English bull dog whose skin is in a state of constant irritation. We feed only human grade, low ingredient list dog food along with homemade feed. so far nothing from the natural pet food store has brought relief. Thanks for your time and excellent products.
A: Yes the products are safe for your dog. I have many customers that use our products on their dogs. My lab once had eczema and a secondary staph infection. After spending over $200 at the vet and a cone on his head for two weeks, there was no change to his condition. In my frustration I dowsed him with Groomer in the morning and evening for two days. By the end of a week, the condition had cleared up and by the end of a month the hair had grown back and there was no evidence of the condition. I suggest using the Groomer to scrub the affected area. For excessive licking, use the Bare Skin Barrier.
